Start of Senior Production: Block #6

Hello everyone! I have now started a new project. I’m collaborating with the dance strand at my school to create a dance about equality. I wanted this piece to represent that no matter what color, size, race, gender, etc., we are all human individuals and we should all be treated equally.
The song I decided to use is called HUMAN by Sevdaliza. My dance will be three minutes and 16 seconds. The dancers I am utilizing for my piece are Mary Perry (lightskin) , Briana Parker (darkskin) , and Lia Kroll (white). I made sure to choose dancers of different skin colors so the message if portrayed clearly along with the songs and the choreography. The costumes will be all black and hair will be up. As far as makeup, just something simple.

I am also collaborating with Kylie, Sam, and Makenzie, from the art strand, to create the moldings that she wants for her dance. For my dance, I’m collaborating with Kylie so she can make the marks on my dancers backs that they will wear as they dance. The purpose of our group is to work with strands outside of ours to help them and us create something outside of our comfort zone. The abstraction will be something different and new that hasn’t been seen before in a dance number at our school. I am also a dancer at Salem High School and we don’t use much. If we aren't using props then we just use our bodies which puts us in a comfortable position because we aren’t branching out to the unique things we can use. So for Kylie and my dances, we are basically going to have our dancers wear art on their body while they dance.



So far, I’ve found the songs and I’ve started the choreography. I’m about 1 minute in with it. Today, which is February.26, 2018, I will be teaching my dancers a portion so that we can clean it up before the first showing on March 8. They showing is basically used to get feedback and critiques on what we have so far from the other dancers watching and our teacher, Mrs.Flint. I’ve been going to youtube almost every second of the day for inspiration because sometimes I just sit and listen to the song and in my head I’m just like “I dead have no idea what I’m doing...why did I do this to myself.” But it’s been going just fine. :) For inspiration I’ve been looking at a lot of the choreography from Galen Hooks because she choreographed some movements to the song HUMAN and taught it at a studio. She has worked as a dancer, choreographer, creative director, producer, etc. SHe is one of the reasons how I found out about the song HUMAN a whileeee ago. A few days ago I was like “OH SNAP! I COULD USE THIS!” But when trying to choreograph to it, it didn’t work out entirely so I just decided to mix the first song I had with the part of HUMAN that I really really want to use.

Another choreographer/dancer I have been looking at is MaryAnn Chavez. I saw her dancing with two other girls on instagram one day when I was scrolling down the dance section of my explore page. That's how I found out about the song Without You by Lapalux that I was also watched a whileee ago and recently just found it again. After I got done watching that video, I started watching other and one that caught my eye was “In this Shirt” by Kate Jablonski and Beyond Words dance company. Its more well known then the last. Their dancing was very expression driven and I appreciated it a lot. That gave me inspiration to get up and dance so that shows it had a great impact on me
