Process: Blog #7
Hello everyone! So, if you need a refresher on what the new project that I've started, simply click my blog #6.
So far I've been doing well with this dance. I just have so many ideas that trying to put them together so that the transitions flow and nothing looks choppy, is harder than I thought. I dont know why its giving me more of a hard time then when I normally choreograph, but I'll get it together..hopefully. We had our first showing like a week and a half ago and I think it went pretty well. I recorded my dancers so they wouldn't have to do it live...that's the easy way out and its less intimidating to do it in front of everybody..even though that's what were going to have to do anyway because we have to perform it in front of plentyyy of people, but that's besides the point.
Here is the video..if it doesn't load, I'm sorry but at least you know I made a video.
Here are some pictures of us rehearsing
The next showing is on Monday, March.26, 2018 and we have to have from 1-2 minutes of our dance completed. so far I have a minute and 4 seconds so I've reached my mark (turn up) I think I have a good place to where I stopped the choreography for the showing. Tomorrow we are having rehearsal. I will record when all my dancers are present. So far 2/3 know the choreography past the mark that I showed for the first showing because two of them are seniors so it's easier access. My third dancer is a fast learner. She gets it right away so there won't be a problem. I still need to keep choreographing though so that before the next showing, everything is completee and we can start cleaning the dance up. I'm pretty organized when it comes to meeting the right requirements that Flint wants from us. I'm doing fine.
I haven't really been communicating with Kylie and the rest of the group because they aren't working on what I'm working on. They help the other people with painting and things like that while I'm with the dancers learning and teaching choreography. I still need to get one of my dancers tested with the product Kylie has but Kylie has to find the products..I think she lost it on accident lol. But that can happen anytime before the show so it's no biggie.
I'm having trouble downloading the music off of YouTube and making it into an MP3. I think its just the school computer that's messing it up since the school like to BLOCK EVERYTHING THAT ISN'T INAPPROPRIATE. It's fine though, I'll just use the computer Mrs.Flint has for us to do that type of stuff. I just wanted to get it out of the way without having to use her stuff :(
I've looked up some more contemporary dances on YouTube and I really enjoy watching the emotion and abstract movements the choreographer included. One of them that I can't stop watching is a dance choreographed by Kate Jablonski performed by the Beyond Words Dance Company. Kate Jablonski is the owner and founder of the Beyond Words Dance Company. She began her professional career training in NYC as a member of Broadway dance centers professional program. If you would like to watch it just type in "In this shirt dance" on YouTube and it will be the first one that pops up :).
Another artist I have been looking at is Andrew Winghart. He is a Los Angeles based director and choreographer. Andrew moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California ona full tuition academic scholarship. On YouTube, I watched his dance to Cry me a River by Justin Timberlake. He had a boatload of dancers, I don't think they belong to a company but it was interesting to watch and I can jut imagine how much work it was to choreograph for that many people in that large space that they had. If you want to watch the video, type in YouTube "cry me a river dance" and the first one that pops up is it :)
(Sorry I couldn't attach links, I forgot how to actually make the link work...but, thanks for reading my BLoGGG!)
