Progress: Blog #8

Welcome back to my blog! These past few weeks have been hectic hectic hectic. (Sometimes I even forgot to eat). But anyway, if you want to hear about how these past two weeks have gone, keep reading!

Mrs. Flint, my dance teacher, canceled our showing on April 13, which was a total blessing because none of us we were ready for it. Not like we usually are anyway. So, our final showing is tomorrow, May 1st (send help) and our dance has to be done or else it will potentially be up in the running to get cut from the show. I don't think my dance can be cut though because I'm collaborating with them, I already wrote a proposal for it, and I'm not apart of their class; its my project.

It was soooo much of a struggle trying to get everyone to practice at one time. One of my dancers is in softball, one of my dancers recently sprained her foot but is okay now, and my last dancer has a job so scheduling time for practice is hard. They all haven't practiced full out together yet (send help) so tomorrow shall be interesting if I say so myself.

There was also trouble with studio space during class time. We have a sign up sheet where you are suppose to put down what time and what place you and your dancers should come together to practice. Some students decided not to take advantage of the sign up sheet causing disruption in for everyone's practices. Choreographers were, and still are, being inconsiderate of others dances knowing that we are need to have our dances complete and we all need to learn how to share. Dealing with people who don't care about others has been rough not only for me but for the other student choreographers struggling.

On that note, with the time crunch, I cut my music again to a pretty decent spot. Now, it is currently 2 minutes and 41 seconds. My choreography is complete I just need for my dancers to learn this last little part, which I wasn't able to teach them because of these May showcase rehearsals going on this week so before the showing, I'll try to squeeze that in there (send help).

I haven't been in the art room lately so I haven't had the time to sit and communicate with Kylie. I know she told me that she had the clay for me to make my molding and I'm still trying to see if I should use that or just purchase some molding wax/ nose a scar wax to apply to the backs of my dancers. It would be easier and it's still an art form.

Once this showing is over, the rest of the days until the concert will be used for cleaning cleaning cleaning. I don't want my dance to look stupid on the stage. My dance moves are pretty solid and my dancers are smart so they should be able to obtain what is being taught.

Here is a clip of me teaching one of my dancers during class time with some still screenshots:

Youtube has really been my inspiration. I've been watching a hell of a lot of SYTYCD (so you think you can dance) old episodes that are provided on you and I can't tell you how much I appreciate them. From formation to dance moves, transitions, etc., it has been my saving grace. Here are some links to what I've been watching:

My other source on youtube comes from Kate Jablonski's dancers. She has a whole page where she just posts her choreographed dances and they're all individually expressed and different from one another. The way she uses expressive movements and her  contemporary elements just makes the dances more interesting to look at:

Thanks for tuning in! Stay posted for my next blogpost! (send help)
